Description
This collection of essays is based on presentations delivered at the international conference on Populism and Migration, held in Budapest on March 10–11 2020. The conference formed part of a wider research project on the “Norms and Values in the European Migration and Refugee Crisis” (“NoVaMigra”) and surveyed the period between 2014 and 2017. The conference focused on the questions of migration and populism to draw attention to the close connection between these two phenomena. The presentations and the articles devoted special attention to studying this relation during the refugee and migration crises, and their climax in the year 2015. In particular, the analyses surveyed the effect of migration on populist discourse and the strengthening of radical right-wing parties in Europe, as well as performed multifaceted investigations into the migration crisis in Hungary. Besides articles by international experts, the volume is made complete by studies from well-known Hungarian researchers.
