Description
Born in 1978, Matthias Bruggmann has worked for over fifteen years in the various war zones of the planet. A graduate of the École de Photographie de Vevey, he was interested very early on in the complexity of photography in theatres of war. He first covered the U.S led invasion of Iraq in 2003, and since then, his projects have taken him to Afghanistan, Egypt, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, and many others.
His images are published in many newspapers and magazines, including Le Monde, Time Magazine, and National Geographic.
His work on Syria won the Prix Élysée in 2017. Prix Elysée is the biggest production grant for photography, and is awarded bi-annually by the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne, Switzerland.
